Are you living with someone or know someone who:

...makes excuses to go to the bathroom after meals?

...exercises excessively?

...makes excuses to skip meals and does not eat with others?

...has an intense preoccupation with weight and body image?

...has started to isolate more and more from family and friends?

...makes you start tip-toeing around as if you are walking on eggshells?

...leaves you feeling that something is terribly wrong, but you just don't know what to do?

Who We Are

Triad Friends & Family is a support group for family members, parents, spouses, siblings, friends, counselors or any concerned person who is living with or trying to help someone recover from an eating disorder.  It seeks to understand and assist the person with the eating disorder by supporting those people who want to help them.

Friends and family play a crucial role in the recovery process of a person with an eating disorder.

Triad Friends & Family began meeting in June, 2004.  The group was founded by Shirley Bailey, who after the loss of her daughter, Kelli Bailey Bartley, to an eating disorder, realized the need for such a group in Winston-Salem and the surrounding areas.
What We Do

Our support group offers an atmosphere of confidentiality and trust. We encourage each group member to participate in personal sharing.  What you are able to share may benefit others, and you may gain a better understanding of your own situation through the stories of others in the group.

We believe that recovery from an eating disorder is best accomplished through a combination of individual therapy, group support and examination of the family system.  We do not advocate any specific clinics or programs because we believe that each family's situation is unique and there is no one path to recovery from an eating disorder.  Group members are encouraged to share their personal experiences and discoveries for the benefit of others.
Meetings

Triad Friends & Family meets every second Monday evening from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Mental Health Association in Forsyth County.   For directions, click here.

The monthly meetings are guided by Margaret Harrison, a N.C. Licensed Professional Counselor and a N.C. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  She earned a Master's Degree in Counseling at Wake Forest University in 1982.  She has also completed extensive post-master's coursework and training in Marriage and Family Therapy at UNCG.   She has been counseling for 22 years.  She currently is in private practice at two locations in the Winston-Salem area.
